Press release of the weird and wonderful...

Author Hughie McFadyen is hoping for big things with the publication of his debut book ‘Short Shorts’ – a wide-ranging and entertaining compilation of short stories written over several years.

His 34 tales, spanning just over 200 pages comprise science fiction, fantasy, human tragedy and much more from the weird and wonderful world of his imagination.
“I would say the inspiration for starting to write short stories was the Inkshed writers group, which I joined five years ago,” explains Hughie.
“I would encourage any would-be authors, who perhaps don't have the confidence to write down their ideas, to join a local writing group.
“Family and friends may be well-intentioned with their comments about your work, but it is only when you meet with your peers in the writing group that you get a true appraisal of your work.
“My group meets fortnightly and we take it in turn to give fellow members titles to write on. This is where some of the ideas for ‘Short Shorts’ came from.”

In ‘Abomination’ a woman’s strange pregnancy upsets the midwife, ‘Forty Two’ tells how the Book of the Dead comes to life resulting in the death of a prostitute.

And what frightens a monk in an abbey in ‘Christmas Past, Present and Future’?
Children running from a wood in ‘A Tall Tale’, but from what?

‘Redemption’ sees a priest with non-celibate feelings towards a Titian-haired beauty.
These are just some of the surprises the reader will encounter as the author’s pen swings like a pendulum from one theme to another.

Hughie’s previous work has featured in anthologies of Inkshed writers’ work, but this is the first book of entirely his own material.

But he says, “I have more stories which in the future could become another book.”

Short Shorts (paperback £6.99, ISBN 978-178035-557-3 and also as an e-book) is available to order directly from the publisher at http://www.fast-print.net/ bookshop/1318/short-shorts or from any good bookshop or internet retailer.

With imagination, anything is possible

Only in men’s imagination does every truth find an effective and undeniable existence. Imagination, not invention, is the supreme master of art as of life.
